In 2004, Marcus Reid bought nine cars at auction and parked them on a half-acre lot in Fontana, California. He had spent a decade watching customers get worn down by four-hour negotiations and fees that appeared only after the handshake. He wanted to try the opposite: one price, printed, honest, and defensible.
